How to break the ice after nearly a year and half? It’s been about that long since my last post. Sure, I’ve started plenty of posts in that interim period — Black Blade #5 (the conclusion), posts on SHOctober, Solo-a-Module Month, and SGAM, among others — but they were never finished. Will they be? I don’t know! You see, I spend a great deal of time and effort in trying to figure out what to do with my very limited free time — which usually results in a lot of not doing anything, or at best, a doing lot of research…

Solo-A-Module Month If you weren’t aware, some of us inadvertently spawned an official Solo-A-Module Month over at the Lone Wolf Roleplaying G+ group, giving March a thematic focus on soloing published modules, sharing tactics for doing so, and publishing actual play reports. As you may know, my first solitaire role-playing experience was an attempt to solo a module, and, while it was entertaining, it wasn’t nearly as meaningful or immersive as the free-form, emergent play I’ve experienced since. I’d always hoped to return to module play with a better strategy for bringing it up to snuff with those emergent play…
I’m not sure if anyone actually uses it, but I’ve updated the Hero Kids Compatible Encounter Generator web app (henceforth known as HKGen because that’s too much to type out every time…). It’s set up as an offline, responsive javascript web app using an appcache manifest. You don’t necessarily need to know that, but you should see a popup asking if it should reload any time you visit the page after the code gets updated. I actually had issue with this on my Android phone and had to go in and clear the cached data in the mobile Chrome browser…
Yeah, so… it’s been a while since I’ve posted. Not to worry, though! I’m still lurking, reading up on RPGs, making the occasional attempt at solo and family play, and getting beat up by the real world, as I’m sure you can relate. I’ve also been working on a few items I’m looking forward to sharing with you in the near future: An Adventure The first is an OSR adventure module. Or maybe it’s an adventure toolkit. I had inspiration from a short story called Winter’s Gate and I went in with the intention of creating something that could produce an…
Hopefully you didn’t notice, but we’ve moved servers and also moved to an SSL-secured site. Let me know on the contact page if you run into any issues, or receive any “mixed content” warnings or things of that nature. Thanks!
I’ll be using an old-school-inspired “sword & sorcery” game called Sharp Swords and Sinister Spells (Pay What You Want) for my final solo play in this series. As talked about last time, we’ll also be stepping up to the Mythic Game Master Emulator — the “gold standard” of solo engines. Chapter 6 will be broken up into 3 parts: Mythic GME overview, SS&SS overview, and an Actual Play example putting the two together. If you’re only interested in the action, you can jump over to the actual play. If you don’t know what solo role-playing is, you may want…
